It is the Twickenham Film Studios sessions that have characterised the whole Let It Be project as an unhappy one both in the minds of The Beatles themselves and anyone who saw the documentary footage in the movie. The dissolution of The Beatles was a famously unpleasant situation: By 1968, Lennon and McCartney were sometimes working simultaneously in separate studios only about half of the White AlbumвЂ™s songs featured the full band. However, amidst the turmoil of the bandвЂ™s breakup, the album was re-produced by Phil Spector before its 1970 release and it did not represent the raw and unadorned set The Beatles had in mind. Let It BeвЂ¦ Naked is the stripped-down, return-to-live-takes album that The Beatles originally aimed to create, free of vocal and instrumental overdubs or added effects. No studio effects or overdubbing of voices or instruments would be allowed - just the bare necessities of the band.

For many of us, this was the first version of вЂњLet it BeвЂќ that we heard on the radio so this is especially sweet to hear it with such clarity and focus.When The Beatles first set out to make Let It Be in 1969, they intended to record an album that would be a return to live performance. And finally on this EP youвЂ™ll hear a sweet new mix of the original 45 RPM single version of вЂњLet It BeвЂќ which again included very different overdubs from what you hear on the LP. Here youвЂ™ll also find a new mix of the original single mix of вЂњDonвЂ™t Let Me DownвЂќ which appeared as the B-side to the classic вЂњGet BackвЂќ single in April 1969 - this has some different overdubs on it than other versions. There is a different mix of вЂњI Me MineвЂќ recorded by George, Paul and Ringo just after New Years in 1970 (John was away on holiday). The stripped back mix of вЂњAcross The UniverseвЂќ is very close to the original 1968 version of the song which appeared on a benefit LP in the UK, featuring lots of Sitar droning and high background choruses from some fan singers who were brought in on the session. The 50th Anniversary edition of Let It Be boxed set includes a bonus вЂњEPвЂќ featuring four songs which have their own unique place in the Beatles universe.
